Taught at Brigham Young University before retiring and working full time as an artist. He also helped to paint murals on LDS temples including the Nauvoo Temple and the Provo City Center temple.

Robert Marshall was a professor of visual arts for 40 years, he served as chair of the Department of Art at Brigham Young University before returning back to the studio and classroom. When he retired he went back to painting full time.
